Safety
Operating safely in today’s complex construction environment requires deliberate
focus and proactive management. Valley maintains a full-time Safety Director in
each of its three largest offices: Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, to ensure the
proper emphasis is placed on a safe work environment on each project
Training
Safety on the jobsite begins before any employee steps foot on the site. In order
to ensure a thorough understanding of all safety procedures and expectations, Valley
conducts a comprehensive training program for all new hires, outlining each employee’s
responsibility as well as job site disciplinary actions. New hires are also given
instruction on Valley Interior’s policies regarding:
- General Safety Rules
- Industrial Hygiene Provisions
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Respiratory Protection Program
- Confined Space Entry Program
- Scaffolding
- Fall Protection
- Stairways and Ladders
- Electrical Hazards
- Hazard Communication Program
- Flammable Liquids Safety
- Welding and Cutting
- Material Hoisting and Stocking
- Housekeeping
- Laser Equipment Operation
- Fire Prevention and Protection
- Pneumatic Power Tools
- Powder Actuated Tools
- Scissors and Aerial Lifts
Safety Management
Safety policies and procedures are only effective to the extent that they are followed.
In addition to periodic job site reviews by one of the Safety Directors, each Foreman
and Superintendent has a role as well:
- Field Foremen and Superintendents are required to complete the OSHA 30-hour course
for construction.
- Each Foreman and Superintendent acts as the safety representative for his project,
and has the authority to take any means necessary to correct any unsafe conditions
and take disciplinary actions against any employee necessary.
- Each Foreman has the responsibility to plan and execute all work in his assigned
area so as to comply with the law, Valley Interior Systems Policy, and all jobsite
safety programs.
- Conduct job-site safety meetings and manage documentation for safety activities.
Drug Free Workplace Policy
Valley participates in the Drug Free Workplace Policy, as managed by the Ohio Bureau
of Workers’ Compensation. Valley Interior was an early enrollee in the program,
in recognition of the affect that substance abuse has on the health, safety and
productivity of workers.

Safety Incentive Program
To support workplace safety, and to provide incentives to all field employees, Valley
has established a Safety Incentive Program, in which each employee can earn rewards
annually for no safety policy infractions or workplace injuries
